The San Fernando Station features three public art sculptures. They are entitled “King of the Urban Jungle,” “Simba × 2,” and “Lying Beast.” All three statues are arranged together on a small circular piece of lawn on the south edge of the station.
"Artist Iiona Malka Rich created this sculpture of three, multicolored striped lions with illuminating eyes (using fiber optics) from a bronze-like material. One has eight legs with two heads, and the other two lions have six legs each. The theme for this art feature is “Life is a Circus” which is inscribed around the base of the artwork. In addition, lion footprints are “stamped” on the ground through the plaza to replicate the natural movement of these unique animals."
The San Fernando Valley is an urbanized valley located in Los Angeles County, southern California, defined by the mountains of the Transverse Ranges circling it. Home to 1.8 million people, it lies north of the larger and more populous Los Angeles Basin.
Nearly two thirds of the Valley's land area is part of the city of Los Angeles. The other incorporated cities in the Valley are Glendale, Burbank, San Fernando, Hidden Hills, and Calabasas.
The San Fernando Valley is about 260 square miles (670 km2) bounded by the Santa Susana Mountains to the northwest, the Simi Hills to the west, the Santa Monica Mountains and Chalk Hills to the south, the Verdugo Mountains to the east, and the San Gabriel Mountains to the northeast. The northern Sierra Pelona Mountains, northwestern Topatopa Mountains, southern Santa Ana Mountains, and Downtown Los Angeles skyscrapers can be seen from higher neighborhoods, passes, and parks in the San Fernando Valley.

Sydney Adventist Hospital, commonly known as the San, is a large private hospital in Sydney, Australia, located on Fox Valley Road in Wahroonga. Established on 1 January 1903, as a not-for-profit organisation, it was originally named the Sydney Sanitarium from which its colloquial name was derived. The hospital is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, whose Australian headquarters are located in the immediate vicinity of the San. The hospital offers a broad range of acute medical, surgical, diagnostic, outpatient, support and wellness services, including Executive Health Checks at the Fox Valley Medical & Dental Centre.
As a not-for-profit health care facility, 2,200 staff and 700 accredited medical officers provide services for more than 50,000 inpatients and over 160,000 outpatients annually at the San.
The hospital is the base for the nursing course offered by Avondale College.
Sydney Sanitarium opened in Wahroonga on 1 January 1903 with a bed capacity of 70 and was known as a ‘home of health’ and as a place where people learned to stay well. The original Hospital building was designed by Dr Merritt Kellogg, brother of Dr John Harvey Kellogg. The Sanitarium became widely known as the ‘San’, and today, many years after its 1973 official name change to Sydney Adventist Hospital, it is still fondly referred to as ‘the San’ Hospital.

The history of the San Fernando Valley from its exploration by the 1769 Portola expedition to the annexation of much of it by the City of Los Angeles in 1915 is a story of booms and busts, as cattle ranching, sheep ranching, large-scale wheat farming, and fruit orchards flourished and faded.Throughout its history, settlement in the San Fernando Valley was shaped by availability of reliable water supplies and by proximity to the major transportation routes through the surrounding mountains. ---Image-Copyright-and-Permission--- About the author(s): Minesweeper at English Wikipedia License: Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 (CC-BY-SA-3.0) License Url: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Author(s): Minesweeper (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Minesweeper) ---Image-Cop...

"The Last Train To San Fernando" - The Event, The Song and The Myth. Most people will tell you that San Fernando's last service train was hauled by engine TGR No11 which today is on display at Harris Promenade, San Fernando. This is incorrect. The very last train, as this short video reveals, was the service which departed platform 1, Port of Spain railway station on Monday August 30th 1965 at 5:12pm (it was 37 minutes late, scheduled to depart at 4:35pm) The Locomotive which hauled the last service train was TGR (Trinidad Government Railway) Engine No27, which was a member of the 21 Class 4-6-0 locomotives. This train really was the very last passenger train to San Fernando. Over the years both the event and the song - "The Last Train to San Fernando" - have become a part of ...

Baby Boomers Tribute "Get Together" 1910-2010 San Fernando Valley So Cal The San Fernando Valley is considered the child city of metropolitan Los Angeles; a child that gradually grew and matured. From the development of farming and agriculture to the subdividing of land and finally to the market boom in commercialization and industrialization, the Valley has taken on its own course in history thus invented its own acclamation. In fact, Charles A. Bearchell noted, "If the Valley were a separately incorporated city, it would rank among the top six cities in the nation." To understand the maturation of the Valley, one must note the population growth, specifically between the years 1910 to 1960, when the largest population increases were recorded in Valley history. Indeed, the population of t...

Created by the California Mission Trails Association, "Along El Camino Real" is a 1950s travelogue showing off California and its missions. Images include San Diego and Coronado Bay, Los Angeles and Hollywood, Santa Barbara, the "Ghost Town" tourist attraction, Mission San Fernando, San Francisco, and much more. "El Camino Real" or King's Highway was supposedly originated by Father Junipero Serra. The trail between San Diego and San Francisco was revived in the American period in connection with the boosterism associated with the Mission Revival movement of the early 20th century. In 1912, California began paving a section of the historic route in San Mateo County. Construction of a two-lane concrete highway began in front of the historic Uncle Tom's Cabin, an inn in San Bruno that wa...
William Mulholland (September 11, 1855 – July 22, 1935) was responsible for building the infrastructure to provide a water supply that allowed Los Angeles to grow into one of the largest cities in the world. As the head of a predecessor to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Mulholland designed and supervised the building of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, a 233-mile (375 km)-long system to move water from Owens Valley to the San Fernando Valley. The creation and operation of the aqueduct led to the disputes known as the California Water Wars. In March 1928, Mulholland's career came to an end when the St. Francis Dam failed just over 12 hours after he and his assistant gave it a safety inspection. A fictionalized story loosely based on the California Water Wars was used as the basis ...

Tapped Out The History and Battle Over Water in the San Joaquin Valley- Part 1
Documentary film covering the top secret 1959 Sodium Reactor meltdown in Los Angeles, California. The incident, kept secret for decades, resulted in the deaths of an estimated 300 to 1,800 people and is the suspected source of elevated cancer rates in adjacent suburban communities. The amount of contaminants released have been estimated at over 400 times that of the highly publicized Three Mile Island incident. This film features accounts from former Atomics International employees detailing the incident that sent highly radioactive gases over parts of Los Angeles for two weeks. Employees also recall illegal acts of mass pollution such as open burn pits that sent radioactive waste into the open air for decades. These experiments took place at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory, in the hil...
From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971_San_Fernando_earthquake The 1971 San Fernando earthquake (also known as Sylmar earthquake) struck the San Fernando Valley near Sylmar at 6:00:55 a.m. PST on February 9, 1971, with a magnitude of 6.6. There are various names for this earthquake. Seismologists call it the San Fernando earthquake. USGS 'Sylmar Quake' or 'Sylmar earthquake' is the name initially given to the event by local media outlets, because the worst damage was to the Olive View Medical Center, located in Sylmar. Local veterans of 'the Sylmar Quake' commonly refer to this seismic event as the 'February Ninth' quake. Contains the famous line about the earth shaking "like an angry parent shakes his screaming child!"

The Valley In The Struggle is a short documentary sharing the amazing story of the San Fernando Valley's participation in fighting for farm worker justice. Together, the UFW and residents of the valley boycotted local grocery stores, picketed farm fields and marched the 340 mile Peregrinacion (Pilgrimage), all in the name of civil rights and dignity. Together, Cesar Chavez and the San Fernando Valley sacrificed their lives to create a better tomorrow, not only for their Mexican-American brothers and sisters, but for the greater American community. The sacrifices of those who fought for justice in the San Fernando Valley, solidified their rightful place in American History. www.TheValleyInTheStruggle.com Stay Connected: facebook.com/thevalleyinthestruggle Produced by Start Now Studios www...
